Result of the vote to host the World Universities Debating Championships in
2004
There were 3 bids to host worlds in 2004.
Croatia
Malaysia Singapore
Each bidder was given ~20min to present their bid and another 10 minutes for
questions etc. The order of presentation was drawn before the start of the
presentations. After all the presentations each national delegate cast
their votes. The total number of votes, as determined by the worlds
constitution, was 65 thus 33 was needed to win. If no bid received that on
the first count the lowest was eliminated and the delegates voted again for the
two remaining bids.
The order of presentation was: Malaysia, Singapore & Croatia
After the first round of votes Croatia had 17, Malaysia 27 and Singapore
21. As no bid had reached the required 33 Croatia was eliminated and the
nations voted again. The result was Malaysia 31 and Singapore 34.
Therefore Nanyang University in Singapore will host Worlds in 2004
